Tracking the Tropics: Hurricane Florence

The East Coast is Tracking Florence

and last updated

The Tropics are active again with multiple tropical systems or "waves" to follow. The storm of most concern at the moment is Florence. As of Monday night, Florence is a major hurricane at category 4 strength.

Based on the latest track from the National Hurricane Center, it appears Hurricane Florence is heading for the Carolinas. The storm will be close enough to Maryland by Friday and Saturday to cause some issues with flooding and gusty winds. Even though Maryland's impacts are not expected to be as severe as the Carolinas, our ground is very saturated and any increase in wind speed could cause some downed trees and power outages. This indirect impact will be the biggest concern going forward.
