It is very apropos that the tropics are active because hurricane season began yesterday, June 1st.
Tropical Depression Three is slowly moving over the Bay of Campeche. Life-threatening amounts of rain and flooding are occurring in portions of Mexico and Central America which may lead to mudslides.
A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for the coast of Mexico which means Tropical Storm conditions are expected. Check out the graphic below courtesy of the National Hurricane Center (NHC)

TD Three is forecast to enter the Gulf of Mexico some time this week but at this point, it's unclear if it will have any impacts on the U.S. If TD Three becomes a Tropical Storm, the name given will be Cristobal.
