It is the start of a new month and the tropics are active! With that said, it's not even the peak of hurricane season yet. The peak is September 10th.
The next named storm will be Nana. If we get through the entire alphabet which is quite likely, we will then go to the Greek alphabet. 2005 was the last time we had to go to the Greek Alphabet.
Tropical Depression Fifteen developed yesterday off the East Coast. Today it is moving NE at 13 mph and is passing Southeast of Cape Hatteras. It's expected to stay a Tropical Depression as it moves farther away from land and out to sea.
Besides TD Fifteen we are watching 2 tropical waves. The first one is in the Central Caribbean moving westward and has an 80% chance of becoming a Tropical Depression or Tropical Storm in the next 24 to 48 hours. The second tropical wave will come off the African coast in the next day or two. It has a 40% chance of tropical development in the next 5 days.
Stay tuned!
