Snow flurries are coming to town! It's exciting to talk about as the first round of potentially measurable snowfall is in the forecast. (I say that now, as only the MD/PA border may see the snow stick to cement. The ground is too warm everywhere else.)
But when could we see our next BIG snow day??? According to NOAA, it is once every 5 years that we see 10" or more of snow in one day. Well that just happened in 2016, so we have until 2021 for that to happen again, based on climatology. However, twice in 5 years we see 8" or more. We are due to hit this statistic this year. It won't happen in the next 2 weeks though as you get through your holiday shopping, thank goodness. According to the Climate Prediction Center, The next 6-14 days ( Dec 14-21) look to be warmer than normal and wetter than normal. So more rain is coming, and that is great news because we are in a rain deficit of about 3.50".
