KENT ISLAND, Md. — Mother's day is coming so what do we do? Make reservations! Well...not this year.
Knoxie's Table on Kent Island, is offering a curb side service. Just managers are left, but they haven't forgotten about their employees.
Any restaurant owner will tell you, Mother's Day will probably be the biggest day of the year and that's true for Knoxie's Table at the Inn at Chesapeake Bay Beach Club. Unfortunately, because of where we are, their bar stools will remain empty and the clinking of glasses will not be heard.
Kellen Shepard is the Assistant General Manager. When they are at full service there is about 45 people working in the restaurant now, that has been reduced to about five.
They kept getting calls for food so they set up curbside service and delivery and it has been popular. The five people left are managers and they are doing all the work, cooking, cleaning and delivering. They are not making nearly as much money as they would normally, but they are getting some big tips and they're giving it to all the employees.
The shut down may not be good timing for the workers, but the Mother's Day rush should be robust and that means more tips towards unemployed workers.
"We have a fund for them so, any tips we get we are donating it to them," said Shepard.
For Mother's Day ,they have several options.
"Pick up Saturday, raw food which you can take home and cook up for your family. You can pick up things that all you have to do is heat up even if you're not a cook," Shepard explained.
And of course you can order food hot and ready to go.
